Give: Children’s Medical Center Needs Gifts for Patients

posted by on 2012.12.18, under Charity, What to do today!

In a recent article, we told you about a few ways to give back to the community this holiday season. Here’s one more: Children’s Medical Center is very short on gifts to give their patients on Christmas. Donations are down and the storage area for gifts “is largely empty.”

Let’s change that. Drop off new, unwrapped gifts at the valet stand at the main entrance of Children’s Medical Center at 1935 Medical District Drive, Dallas, TX 75235. You can also mail toys to that address. Donations will be accepted through Dec. 23.

The hospital is particularly in need of gifts for infants/toddlers and teens. Children’s has provided the following ideas:

Needed items for infants and toddlers include outfits and bibs; baby rattles and toys that light up or make noise. Also, bouncy seats and mobiles made of all plastic parts.

For teens, needed items include PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 games, all of which must be rated E for everyone; compact discs and DVD movies for children; compact discs and DVD movies for teens; professional sports and college sports T-shirts; arts and crafts kits for teens; retail store gift cards for businesses such as Walmart, Target, Old Navy and other stores; and hobby store gift cards for shopping outlets such as Hobby Lobby, Party City, Michael’s and other businesses.

Donations of AA, C and D batteries also are requested.

Any gifts that are not distributed on Christmas are given to patients throughout the remainder of the year on birthdays and other milestones, such as when a child completes a difficult course of treatment. The donations are also used to stock the shelves of playrooms that patients use when they are hospitalized.
