California Dreamin’

03:

So it’s official, Trader Joe’s has found spaces to set up shop in the Dallas/Fort Worth area including Dallas and Plano. (The Fort Worth location was announced before these additions.) The reasonably-priced Californian grocery chain offers a variety of their own products … and, by that, we mean a lot!

Why are we so excited? They offer a bunch of cheeses, meats, prepared foods (Turkey pretzel bread sandwich? Yes, please.), seasonal products like pumpkin cheesecake and other yummy items. Plus, parents will love the economical Charles Shaw wine, which is affectionately nick-named as Two Buck Chuck.

Looking to give back this holiday season? Well, your family can eat, drink and be giving tonight at The Purple Cow on Preston and Royal in Dallas. From 5–8pm, bring your kids to eat dinner and choose a pre-purchased toy to donate to Toys for Tots.

You can also listen to a Marine from Toys for Tots speak about value of giving to those in need, and enjoy a visit from Santa. If you eat lunch or dinner today at The Purple Cow at Preston and Royal, make sure to mention Wee Volunteer and 15% of your meal will be donated to the non-profit organization.

Making It Merry

Let the kids bring out their inner artist through craft time at Anthropologie. On various days throughout the week, the hip store is providing the opportunity for moms to shop around for gifts while the kids participate in holiday-inspired activities. Some locations will also have storytimes providing the little crafters with some literary fun too. Best of all, it’s all free.

To signup, call your local store and let the artsy-craftsy activity begin!

Sew Cool

30:

We all have our favorite outfit. You know the one that is your staple go-to. It’s versatile yet timeless. But, unfortunately for ever growing little sprouts (a.k.a. kids), it can be hard to always fit into the same cherished ensemble throughout the years. Little girls everywhere will love I Had a Favorite Dress by Boni Ashburn and pictures by Julia Denos. This stylish and fun book is about a girl who outgrows her favorite dress. Follow along as her mom snips and sews her dress into different creations throughout the story (like a tank top then a skirt and many other fashion pieces) so that the girl can continually use the material. Fashionistas young and old will adore the whimsical and colorful illustrations along with the idea of adapting to change. Available at select Barnes and Noble locations and a Real Bookstore in Fairview. List price: $16.95.

With Top Chef’s latest season in full swing, it’s hard not to have food on the mind … plus, it was filmed in Texas, y’all! Mix up your mid-day break with lunch at PRIVATE|SOCIAL starting November 15. The restaurant concept is a collaboration effort between Top Chef alum Tiffany Derry, Patrick Halbert and Andy Austin and offers a varied menu in a sophisticated yet comfortable atmosphere. For starters, graze on some pastrami cured hiramasa (with tomato jam, coriander vinaigrette and pickled chile) or salmon croquette followed by a main entree like fish tacos or jerk chicken. If you’re on a tighter budget for the holiday season but want to sample a variety, opt for the moderately priced Social Lunch – soup or salad, fish of the day and homemade gelato or sorbet all for 15 bucks. 3232 McKinney Ave., Dallas.
