This Friday, jump off your energy at the grand opening of a trampoline park in Fort Worth, get an autograph from your hero at the Dallas Comic Con, and join the campaign for real food on Food Revolution Day.
Dallas Comic Con
Superhero and comic fans will descend upon the Irving Convention Center for Dallas Comic Con Friday–Sunday. Enter the kids costume contest to show off your homemade costumes, and get autographs from the original Captain Kirk and fierce Priceline Negotiator William Shatner, Firefly’s Nathan Fillion, Brandon Routh from 2006’s Superman Returns, Andrew McCarthy for all those Pretty in Pink fans, and more celebs and legendary comic writers and artists. Online registration has closed but you can still get tickets at the center’s box office. Single-day tickets are $25–$40 for adults, and kids tickets are $5 for ages 5–12 and free for ages 4 and younger.
Opening of the new Flight Deck Trampoline Park
Join the grand opening for West Fort Worth’s first indoor trampoline park with more than 90 high performance trampolines and attractions including, a foam pit, basketball dunking lanes, main court, and two dodgeball arenas. The party starts at 5pm on Friday with door prizes and music spun by a DJ, and the grand opening runs through Sunday. Check out their , a frozen yogurt shop with 16 flavors and a full topping bar, and stay tuned for open jump times, scheduled jump times specially for young children, Teen Nights, JumpFit 1000 Classes and dodgeball leagues.
The park has different admission pricing for weekends and weekdays, starting at $8 per hour for kids 6 and younger. Kids 3 and younger are always free with a paying parent. Weekend admission: $12 per hour for ages 7 and older; $10 per hour for ages 6 and younger; free for ages 3 and younger with a paying parent.
Food Revolution Day
Do you know Jamie Oliver? He’s the British chef who’s encouraging families to eat “real food” to avoid the growing obesity rates, and he’s leading the way with the Jamie Oliver Food Foundation, which has declared Friday as Food Revolution Day. Visit foodrevolutionday.com to find an event near you – including the Real Food Picnic at Texas Discovery Gardens in Dallas or the Fort Worth Food Park Party – or gather your kids in your own kitchen to make a great meal from scratch. On Wednesday, meet an advocate for alternative farming and healthier food at a workshop in Dallas, and watch a fairy tale musical in Fort Worth about a boy who never wants to grow up.
Sustainability workshop
Did you watch the 2008 documentary Food, Inc. or read The Omnivore’s Dilemma? You may remember the third-generation alternative farmer, lecturer and author Joel Salatin who was featured in both, and he’ll be in Dallas tomorrow for a workshop for adults at Mountain View College. Learn about how he operates his family farm in Virginia, Polyface Farms and listen to his philosophy on how livestock and poultry should be humanely raised.

Water Walk
Join Wee Volunteer at the second annual Dallas Water Walk, a symbolic walk to raise awareness about the world water crisis and support for the UNICEF Tap Project, which is a global campaign to provide children with clean water. Families will be given weighted jugs to carry on the quarter-mile loop around Curtis Park.
Along the way you’ll see posted signs with fun facts about water and then the kids can visit the education area to learn more about UNICEF’s mission. Stop by between 9am and 1pm and then snack on grilled cheese sandwiches from the Ruthie’s Rolling Café food truck. For more information, visit dallaswaterwalk.weebly.com.
Planetarium Shows
Noble Planetarium at the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History is debuting new shows: Dark Matter, a full dome movie that explores the complex scientific story of dark matter, and RadioActive, a laser light show that features rock music from bands including Radiohead, Muse, Florence and The Machine, and Red Hot Chili Peppers. See Dark Matter on Saturday 3:45pm, or RadioActive at 7pm or 8:30pm.
Or over in the Omni Theater, you can catch the 5pm showing of Tornado Alley, an IMAX film open Saturday at the museum about Sean Casey from the Discovery Channel documentary series Storm Chasers and the researchers of Vortex2.
Shamrockin’ 5K Mud Run
Ahead of St. Patrick’s Day, the kids can join the Clover Mile Wave, a one-mile mud run at noon, at J Ranch in Flower Mound, while the adults can run in the 5K course – waves start at 9am – with a zip line and more than 20 obstacles. Finishers will get a lucky charm and admission to the festival with live music, food and, for adults, green beer. Proceeds benefit Legacy Boxer Rescue of Texas. Admission is $75 on race day.

Tennis Festival
Join a tennis clinic hosted by the U.S. Tennis Association for families of all skill levels at the Rockwall Golf and Athletic Club, located at 2600 Champions Dr., from 5:30–7pm. Parents will learn how using smaller courts, smaller rackets and slow-bouncing balls can make the sport ideal for kids in specific age groups. Ridgmar Mall Kids Club
Learn fun facts about the stegosaurus, brachiosaurus, T. rex and more dinosaurs at the Ridgmar Mall’s free program Dinosaur Detective from 11am–noon in Fort Worth. The kids will play games, make crafts and listen to stories all related to the extinct but not forgotten creatures at this program by National Geographic Kids.
JumpstART Stories & Art
There is a reason Texas is home to great storytellers, and kids ages 2 and older can learn about Texas’ long, storied history at the Irving Arts Center’s monthly program with stories and themed art projects. Join families at 10am to celebrate Texas History Month and stick around after the session to browse the art galleries.
