Teres Kids has created a clothing line designed with your child’s comfort in mind. Cute and fashionable designs, for boys and girls, are made with 100% organic cotton. Not only is the sustainable material soft on the skin, but all Teres clothes are made completely tag-less and with the seams on the outside of the garment. Teres shirts, dresses and pants are great options for your active child, especially if he or she is highly sensitive to itchy tags, rough fabrics and bothersome seams. We are still waiting on a local retailer to carry Teres, but all designs are available for purchase at the Teres Kids Website. Items start as low as $13.50.

May is Melanoma detection and prevention month which provides a great opportunity for parents to assess their own skin-situation while teaching children healthy skin habits. Melanoma is currently the most common form of cancer among young adults and the second most common form of cancer among teens. Skin cancer is on the rise with a staggering number of new cases daily. Tanning beds are one of the main culprits, in addition to overexposure to natural sunlight.

Take the time to teach your children about the value of health over a tan so they don’t become a statistic. And, be sure to practice what you preach! Avoid tanning salons at all costs and always apply sunblock. If a golden tan is a must then fake it with a spray-on or cream. Be sure to check your body regularly for abnormalities and visit your dermatologist if you have any concerns. The American Academy of Dermatology provides information on preventing melanoma, detecting melanoma and what to do if diagnosed with melanoma.

PREVENT. DETECT. LIVE.

Take time this week to impart a love for reading to your kiddos by celebrating Children’s Book Week. This national celebration is focused on developing a love for reading in our youth and observing the life-changing potential of a book during a young person’s formative years. Better world books offers up these suggestions for celebrating Children’s Book Week (but feel free to celebrate all year long):

Buy a book from BetterWorldBooks.com. With every book purchased, they donate a book to someone who needs it. The vast majority of donations goes to Books for Africa and Feed the Children.

Pick out one of your (or one of your parents’) favorite books from childhood and introduce it to your kid at bedtime.

Spend some time at your local library. Even a few minutes here and there in our busy schedule will help instill a lifelong love of books.

Pen your own children’s book to read to your kids. Have them also write their own to read to you, too!

Pick out 5 books, either from your own collection or from a book store, to donate to literacy campaigns throughout the world.

Better World Books is offering various specials and discounts this week in honor of Children’s Book Week. Pick out a few books and celebrate reading every day of the year.
