Everyone likes to play pretend: Kids can be princesses, astronauts, firemen, mermaids. But when it’s time to play house, why get just any old playhouse?
At The Toy Maven in Dallas, you can get Nuchi’s Create Your Own Playhouse, a fun new toy that will let kids get creative and imaginative. This 48″ x 30″ x 60″ cardboard house comes with six windows and two doors, and creative kiddos can draw everything from window panes to flower boxes to shingles on the roof.
It’s lightweight, so you can carry it around the house (or into the backyard for painting or just playing), but it’s also durable enough to withstand your kids’ energy. $79.99; for ages 3 and up.

Right now, it’s summer in South America. Warm up today by treating your taste buds (and your wallet) to this sweet deal: at Texas de Brazil, kids eat free (under age 6) and kids ages 7-12 eat half price!
At this churrascaria (steak house), you get the cuisine of southern Brazil along with the spirit of Texas. Help yourself to an extravagant salad bar, featuring items such as mozzarella cheese, grilled portobellos, sushi, salami, soup and more. If you’re feeling more carnivorous, order the chicken breast wrapped in bacon, pork ribs, parmesan chicken, leg of lamb, Brazilian sausage or various other cuts of meat, all served by waiters journeying through the restaurant with your meat on a skewer. Dishes are served with sides of sweet fried bananas, garlic mashed potatoes and more.

Well, the snow and ice have melted just as fast as they arrived without warning. I hope you all stayed warm last week … and also squeezed in some time to make a few snow angels (you’re never too old!).
But, just because the snow is melted, that doesn’t mean it’s time to unpack those spring shorts and flip flops just yet. We still need to bundle up, all while staying fashionable. Here are a couple of cute finds for your boys and girls from A Tiny Hiney in Dallas. And the sweet deal? They’re marked down!
These cute Florence Eiseman sweaters will keep your infants warm and stylish. They are made of 100 percent cotton, with a zipper, hoodie and decorative tassels. Prices range from $44-$47. Snag ‘em before it’s too late!

For those of us in the Dallas/Fort Worth area this weekend, there’s one thing you can’t stop hearing about. You thought I was gonna say Snowpocalypse, right? True, that’s kind of been causing a commotion, but there’s another—mildly important—event that’s got people talking around these parts.
Oh right! Super Bowl XLV is here! In light of this, for those of you who aren’t going to brave the madhouse that will be Cowboys Stadium on Sunday, here are a few other ways to celebrate this weekend:
Stop by the Dallas Museum of Art to check out Big New Field: Artists in the Cowboys Stadium Art Program. The exhibit features works by artists represented in the contemporary art program at the new stadium. See it Friday-Sunday.
Another cool option is to stop by the NFL Experience at the Dallas Convention Center. You’ll get seriously geared up for the game, as the event features free clinics, football instruction, NFL coach chats, autograph sessions, a football card show and more. Check website for daily schedule.
Finally, you can follow up on the hard work kiddos around the Metroplex have been doing for months by checking out SLANT 45: The Movie. Approximately 44,140 North Texas kids volunteered their time last year in their communities, all in conjunction with Super Bowl XLV. This culminating film is showing at various times and locations throughout DFW this weekend.

With all the hoopla surrounding our unexpected icy visitor (including schools being closed for three days to the delight of many children), it is nice to stay warm and cozy indoors!
Usually I suggest a wonderful activity or restaurant to venture to on a Thursday night. However, with the freezing weather, many of you will most likely opt to stay à la maison (at home) as opposed to going out tonight. And what better way to spend your day than to make some yummy baked goods with the family?
Instead of throwing away over-ripe bananas, my family and I decided to make banana bread muffins (mini and regular size). We used a Betty Crocker recipe and spruced it up by sprinkling the finished muffins with a cinnamon and brown sugar combination. (We followed the recipe to a tee, except we only cooked the muffins for 25 minutes.)
If you don’t have buttermilk on hand, no worries; I will let you in on my mom’s secret: Use regular milk and add a teaspoon of lemon juice. And, voila! You will have a delightfully scrumptious treat to enjoy and the kiddies’ tummies will be satisfied. (Mmm … I already ate at least six since this morning!)

Barbecue, Korean and Mexican food all in one dish? Who would have thought that by combining these three food genres would result in yummy goodness?
While living in Southern California, all of my LA-based friends raved about the various Korean barbecue taco trucks (including the fan favorite, Kogi BBQ) that they would frequent on their lunch breaks. They would wait in a line for nearly an hour just to fulfill their cravings. (Some of them don’t even wait 10 minutes at a sit-down restaurant!)
Thus, I became quite perplexed with these mobile establishments and the hold they have on their patrons. It has come as no surprise to me that this food concept has begun to catch on in Dallas, and the newest Korean barbecue taco stand, Goghee To Go, just opened last week. You can either walk up to the window or use the drive-through to place your order. You can choose from four types of meat: beef, chicken, pork or mushroom and then select either tacos, a burrito, a burrito bowl, a quesadilla, a torta or nachos. And if you really want the ultimate experience, you can add to your meal the traditional Korean staple, Gimchi (pronounced Kim-chee), which consists of pickled napa cabbage and various seasonings.
Since there are only a few picnic tables, you may want to take your food to go, making for a non-traditional dinner date. Sweet and spicy—what a lovely yet surprising combination!
